Set on the edge of Hampstead Heath and in the delightful Belsize Park, this family home renovation carefully balances heritage preservation with contemporary family living. Located within a conservation area, the decision-making process required research and a deep respect for the original architecture, while still adapting the house for modern life.
The design centred on opening up the kitchen, dining, and living spaces to improve flow, light, and functionality, creating a welcoming hub for everyday family use and entertaining. To support this, a seamless side extension rooflight was introduced, allowing natural light to flow into the space while respecting the existing structure.
Material choices were deliberately light and neutral to enhance brightness and calm, allowing the space to evolve over time. A colour-pop kitchen in a classic, muted blue adds character and warmth while remaining timeless. The result is a considered, functional family home that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in its heritage.
